Wet-mesic prairie with much of the flora (at least at this spot) composed of species from the sedge meadow and fen; grass sod; Liatris pycnostachya the dominant forb; immediate associates for Muhlenbergia mexicana: Schoenoplectus acutus,. Muhlenbergia glomerata, Lycopus uniflorus, L. americanus, Pentaphylloides floribunda, Pycnanthemum virginianum, Aster firmus, Eupatorium maculatum, Solidago gigantea. Wis. DNR Habitat Preservation Area, recovering agricultural land that has been in public ownership for ca. 50 years, grazed before then, burned this spring for the first time in many decades.
