Habitat: On flat lying bench between Johns Canyon road and limestone canyon rim in reddish gravelly, sandy clay soil; in open Coleogyne ramosissimum community with Cympoteris newberryi and scattered Atriplex confertifolia, Shepherdia rotundifolia, Ephedra torreyana, Lycium andersonii; flowers bright yellow; leaves shiny green, flat against ground with petioles buried; locally common.
