Locality: United States, California, Kern County, Bitter Creek National Wildlife Refuge; far west end of the San Emigdio Mountains. Unit 11 area. Southwest of Pelato Peak and Cerro Noroeste Road. Started off a dirt road near 34.91142N, 119.42112W.

Elevation: 1196-1256 meters (3923-4120ft)
Habitat: Gentle rolling countryside with deep, dry draws. Some areas had a beautiful black cryptogamic crust over a white shale soil. Shrubs include: Juniperus californica, Ericameria linearifolia, Eriogonum fasciculatum polifolium, Yucca whipplei. Some annuals and herbaceous perennials include: Lasthenia gracilis, Salvia columbariae, Ancistrocarphus filagineus, Erodium cicutarium, Eriophyllum pringlei, Phacelia fremontii, P. douglasii, Anisocoma acaulis, Lomatium utriculatum, Pholistoma membranaceum, Leptosiphon parviflorus, Camissonia campestris, Coreopsis bigelovii. Stylomecon heterophylla, Emmenanthe penduliflora, Lupinus microcarpus, Eremalche parryi kernensis, and Collinsia heterophylla.
