Habitat: Prairie fen with sedge meadow zone common throughout, wooded fen with many tamaracks (Larix laricina); lots of Frangula alnus. Very long, narrow fen. Split by the headwaters of the Grand River. East side owned by The Nature Conservancy, west side mostly privately owned. Grand River is too deep/silty to cross without use of footbridges. Many zones in fen. Periodic shurbby zones; invasives; Phalaris arundinacea common. Very east edge of Salix grove; standing water with red particles (Iron? Bacteria?) Mostly Carex stricta and C. lasiocarpa in quadrat and to the North, East, and South. Very hummocky. C. stricta dominant vegetation.
Description: Flower - NA.Very common in area; about 2-5 per sq. m for 10 sq. m; none in flower; most prefer hummocks or the edge of inundation; all with basal leaves only.
