Habitat: Rare in open Nolina-Hilaria swallenii grassland on level ridgetop with soils covered by dark gray igneous stones and gravel. Associates include Acacia angustissima, Acacia neovernicosa, Berberis trifoliolata, Bouteloua gracilis, Buddleja scordioides, Condalia ericoides, Croton pottsii, Desmanthus cooleyi, Dyschoriste decumbens, Dyssodia acerosa, Echinocactus horizonthalonius, Ephedra sp., Euphorbia revoluta, Gaura coccinea, Hilaria mutica, Melampodium leucanthum, Mimosa aculeaticarpa, Opuntia sp., Talinum aurantiacum, and Zinnia grandiflora.
Reproductive Condition: flowering + fruiting=mid
