Lakeside prairie fen around Braxee Lake and smaller Little Braxee Lake to the east. Sedge and Dasiphora fruticosa dominant with Salix, Cornus, and Toxicodendron vernix shrubs. Dense stands of Typha with moderately deep water separate fen on north side of Braxee Lake. Heron rookeries (old bog and current rookery) border the north side of fen. Invaded with Typha angustifolia, Phalaris arundinacea, Phragmites australis, and Lythrum salicaria. On northern edge of prairie fen, 10m from Typha and woody northern border, 20m southwest from large Sycamore tree. Area dominated by Carex, Phragmites, and Typha. Shrubs of Salix and Toxicodendron vernix over 1m tall every 9m2. Ground hummocky and containing ant mounds. Standing water between hummocks.
Flower - 2 compound spikes near bottom of inflorescence, then simple near top, up to 4cm long, male and female flowers not separate. Perigynia - unripe, lenses shaped, ventral veins. Population - common, running between hummocks, several flowering, found
