The fen is less than 30 acres surrounding the lake. There are shruby patches of Cornus, Toxicodendron vernix, birch, and aspen, and large patches of Typha and Phragmites. There are many streams 1m wide, one larger one on the north side of the stream. Evidence of maintenence with burn piles and woody cuttings. Most western part of fen. Mostly Typha and Impatiens capensis stand with intermittent Toxicodendron vernix shrubs. In transition zone between Typha and more shrubby/woody zone dominated by Toxicodendron vernix, Frangula alnus, and Pinus. Herbaceous layer dominated by Carex, Impatiens capensis, and grasses. Ground with large ant mounts (outside Typha, 60cm tall) and west.
Population - inflorescence longer (12cm) and less dense than usual. Found in small clumps among other grasses.
