CoNPS: Timpas Creek SE Chapter Field Trip 2015
Authors:
Leader Steve Olson; Recorder Dan Fosha
Locality: Bloom, CO is about 13 miles southwest of Timpas off of US #350 in Comanche National Grassland, Otero County, Colorado. Field Trip located at T27S, R59W, Section 13.
Abstract: This plant list was compiled on a Southeast Chapter Field Trip of the Colorado Native Plant Society on May 31, 2015. Leader was Steve Olson and Recorder was Dan Fosha. The trip was on/in the floodplain of Timpas Creek and onto a low adjacent limestone outcrop (Fort Hayes limestone). The highlight of the trip was actually geomorphology in action. As we approached the creek, we heard a muffled pop and rumble, then watched a slab of the creek "bank" (not actually the bank but the edge of a higher terrace) about 20' high, 10' wide, and 2' thick lean over as a unit and drop across the creek.
