Growing on slope near base of rock outcrop ca. 7 m S of creek. Horner Mtn. Quadrangle (7 1/2 min.). UTM 3811675N by 421010E (Zone 12)

Pinyon-juniper woodland. Partially shaded and somewhat dry. Slope about 10°; facing north-northwest.
Soil deposits on the slope are relatively deep but thoroughly mixed with rocks of all sizes. They have derived in situ from Precambrian granite and organic detritus.
Juniperus, Quercus, Pinus, Cercocarpus, Yucca, Acacia, Garrya
Common throughout the canyon on a variety of substrates. Favors shaded, north-facing slopes and rock outcrops.
