USA, Utah, San Juan, BLM land. Take U-95 west from Blanding, through the highway cut through Comb ridge and down into Comb Wash. In middle of Comb Wash, turn south (left) on San Juan Country Road 235, drive to Fish Canyon trailhead (approx. 14 km) and follow trail east for 1-2 km to a dune-like area. Area on a bench on west side of Comb Wash. Sample site is near the mouth of Fish .Canyon, 50-100 m southeast of main channel of Fish Creek.

Open salt-bush scrub community with bunch-grasses and scattered juniper. Below the bench, 50-100m north-west of sample site lies a tamarisk dominated riparian community.
Sample site lies along lower fish canyon trail where trail traverses a bench of sandy alluvium on the west side of Comb Wash. A thin to moderately developed soil-colored crust is present at the sample site
