Habitat: Sonoran Desertscrub. Dominant perennial on grassy, north facing pediment just east of the Ajo Mountain Drive.
Associated Species: Simmondsia, Jatropha cardiophylla, Cylindropuntia fulgida, C. acanthocarpa, Opuntia engelmannii, Fouquieria, Stenocereus, Ephedra, Janusia gracilis, Tridens muticus, Aristida ternipes ternipes, Tidestroemia, Bouteloua rothrockii, B. repens, B. aristidoides, Aristida adscensionis, Metastelma arizonica, Cassia, Boerhavia sp., Kallstroemia grandiflora, K. californica, Allionia incarnata.
Notes: Fresh anthers are red.
