Carpeting sandy roadbed and minor water-runoff depression in sparsely used old corral prehistoric Indian site; common associates include: Rhus aromatica spp. trilobata, Lycium pallidum, Datura wrightii, Atriples canescens, Gutierrezia sarothrae, Artemisia filifolia, Psoralidium lanceolatum, Bouteloua barbata.
Large rounded, shrubby clumps up to 6 ft. tall; phyllaries pale ochroleucus; corolla bright yellow, fading to lemon yellow, lobes glabrous; scattered locally, widespread.
