Full sun; growing in cow pasture and mowed roadside.
Dry, silty substrate.
Bunchgrass, growing up to 0.3m tall when not mowed flat; roots fibrous, with dead material gathered at base; leaves ~5mm wide, bright green, with clasping progression along stem; inflorescence spike-like, drooping, with 4-7 spikes, each individual spikelet has a purple tuft at base
