Full sun; growing on bank of intermittent creek through dense mats of herbaceous waste.
Dry, silty substrate, covered by ~10cm dense herbaceous litter.
Stems grow to 1.5-2m tall, pilose with stiff hairs, fades from green to maroon; leaves pubescent on both sides, alternate with defined midrib, ovate, larger leaves over 15cm wide; inflorescence has 22 yellow unlobed ray flowers surrounding bunch of black disk flowers, phyllaries have hairs along margins, pubescent on outside and inside surfaces
