Habitat: Frequent in open shrubland on moderately steep N-facing slope on N side of a low isolated ridge of dark grey or grayish-brown igneous rock (basalt?). Associates include Artemisia sp., Astragalus wootonii, Baileya multiradiata, Bouteloua curtipendula, Chaetopappa ericoides, Condalia ericoides, Croton pottsii, Dalea formosa, D. frutescens, Eriogonum abertianum, Forestiera angustifolia, Mimosa biuncifera, Nolina texana, Senecio riddellii.
Reproductive Condition: flowering + fruiting=mid
