Habitat: Open southly facing slope above ephemeral stream in rolling to mountainous oak-manzanita-dominated Madrean evergreen woodland.

Associated Species: Quercus emoryi, Quercus oblongifolia, Arctostaphylos pungens, Baccharis salicifolia, Platanus wrightii, Mitracarpus hirtus, Ambrosia confertiflora, Cuphea wrightii, Anoda cristata, Gomphrena cf. nitida, Melampodium cf. appendiculatum, Acalypha neomexicana, Zinnea peruviana, Bidens cf. bigelovii
Description: 5: 10 - 16-inch erect annual plants tending to branch high on stem with opposite lower and alternate upper sharply lobed narrow leaves and rayless flowers subtended by bristly bracts and ~ 20 lanceolate pointed phyllaries.
Notes: These flowers were common among summer annuals on slope.
